Book Description:

The fifth edition of Software Engineering A Practitioner's Approach is intended to serve as a guide to a maturing engineering discipline. The fifth edition, like the four editions that preceded it, is intended for both students and practitioners, retaining its appeal as a guide to the industry professional and a comprehensive introduction to the student at the upper level undergraduate or first year graduate level. The format and style of the fifth edition have undergone significant change, making the presentation more reader-friendly and the content more easily accessible. The fifth edition is considerably more than a simple update. The book has been revised to accommodate the dramatic frowth in the field and to emphasize new and important software engineering practices. The 32 chapter of the fifth edition have been organized into five parts. This has been done to compartmentalize topics and assist instructors who may not have the time to complete the entire book in one term. Part One, The Product and the Process, presents an introduction to the software engineering milieu. It is intended to introduce the subject matter, and more important, to present concepts that will be necessary for later chapters. Part Two, Managing Software Projects, presents topics that are revelant to those who plan, manage and control a software development project. Part Three, Conventional Methods for Software Engineering, presents the classical analysis, design, and testing methods that some view as the "conventional" school of software engineering. Part Four, Object-Oriented Software Engineering, presents object-oriented methods across the entire software engineering process, including analysis, design, and testing. Part Five, OAdvanced Software Engineering Topics, presents dedicated chapters that address formal methods, cleanroom software engineering, component-based software engineering, client/server software engineering, Web engineering, reengineering, and CASE.

A Software Science Perspective
Software Engineering Foundations Image
A groundbreaking book in this field, Software Engineering Foundations: A Software Science Perspective integrates the latest research, methodologies, and their applications into a unified theoretical framework. Based on the author's 30 years of experience, it examines a wide range of underlying theories from philosophy, cognitive informatics, denotational mathematics, system science, organization laws, and engineering economics. The book contains in-depth information, annotated references, real-world problems, heuristics, and research opportunities.Highlighting the inherent limitations of the historical programming-language-centered approach, the author explores an interdisciplinary approach to software engineering. He identifies fundamental cognitive...

Architecture-driven Software Development
Software Engineering Image
Software Engineering: Architecture-driven Software Development is the first comprehensive guide to the underlying skills embodied in the IEEE's Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (SWEBOK) standard. Standards expert Richard Schmidt explains the traditional software engineering practices recognized for developing projects for government or corporate systems. Software engineering education often lacks standardization, with many institutions focusing on implementation rather than design as it impacts product architecture. Many graduates join the workforce with incomplete skills, leading to software projects that either fail outright or run woefully over budget and behind schedule. Additionally, software engineers need to understand system engineeri...

Facts and Fallacies of Software Engineering

Facts and Fallacies of Software Engineering Image
The practice of building software is a 'new kid on the block' technology. Though it may not seem this way for those who have been in the field for most of their careers, in the overall scheme of professions, software builders are relative 'newbies.' In the short history of the software field, a lot of facts have been identified, and a lot of fallacies promulgated. Those facts and fallacies are what this book is about. There's a problem with those factsand, as you might imagine, those fallacies. Many of these fundamentally important facts are learned by a software engineer, but over the short lifespan of the software field, all too many of them have been forgotten. While reading Facts and Fallacies of Software Engineering , you may experience moment...

8th Edition
The structure on the book is based around the fundamental software enginerring processes. It is organised into seven parts. The first six focus on software processes and the final part discusses some important new software engineering technologies. This book is aimed at students taking undergraduate and graduate courses and at software engineers in commerce and industry. It may be used in general software engineering courses or in courses such as advanced programming, software specificaition, and software design or management. Software engineers in industry may find the book useful as general reading and as a means of updating their knowledge on partic...
