Book Description:
This volume contains the papers presented at ALGOSENSORS 2010, the 6th International Workshop on Algorithms for Sensor Systems, Wireless Ad Hoc Networks and Autonomous Mobile Entities, held on July 5, 2010 in Bordeaux, France. There were 31 submissions. Each submission was reviewed by four Program Committee members. The committee decided to accept 15 papers, among them two brief announcements. TheProgramCommitteewouldliketothankallwhosubmittedpapersandall the external reviewers who helped us evaluate the submissions. As the Program Chair of ALGOSENSORS 2010, I would like to express my deep gratitude to the Program Committee for all of their work during the paper review process and the fruitful discussions. I would also like to thank the Workshops Chair Ralf Klasing for organizing a wonderful workshop in Bordeaux. This volume presents the logical arithmetical or computational procedures within communications systems that will ensure the solution to various problems. The authors comprehensively introduce the theoretical elements that are at the basis of the field of algorithms for communications systems. Various applications of these algorithms are then illustrated with particular attention to wired and wireless network access technologies.* Provides a complete treatment of algorithms for communications systems, rarely presented together* Introduces the theoretical background to digital communications and signal processing* Features numerous applications including advanced wireless modems and echo cancellation techniques* Includes useful reference lists at the ...
Distributed computing is at the heart of many applications. It arises as soon as one has to solve a problem in terms of entities -- such as processes, peers, processors, nodes, or agents -- that individually have only a partial knowledge of the many input parameters associated with the problem. In particular each entity cooperating towards the common goal cannot have an instantaneous knowledge of the current state of the other entities. Whereas parallel computing is mainly concerned with 'efficiency', and real-time computing is mainly concerned with 'on-time computing', distributed computing is mainly concerned with 'mastering uncertainty' created by issues such as the multiplicity of control flows, asynchronous communication, unstable behaviors, mob...

The rapid advances in performance and miniaturisation in microtechnology are constantly opening up new markets for the programmable logic controller (PLC). Specially designed controller hardware or PC-based controllers, extended by hardware and software with real-time capability, now control highly complex automation processes. This has been extended by the new subject of safe- related controllers, aimed at preventing injury by machines during the production process. The different types of PLC cover a wide task spectrum - ranging from small network node computers and distributed compact units right up to modular, fau- tolerant, high-performance PLCs. T...
