Book Description:

The 10th International Workshop on Intelligent Statistical Quality Control took place in Seattle, USA, Aug 18-20, 2010. It was hosted by Professor C. M. Mastrangelo, Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, University of Washington, Seattle. The workshop was jointly organized by Professors H. J. Lenz, C. M. Mastrangelo, W. Schmid and P.T. Wilrich. The twenty-seven papers in this volume were carefully selected by the scientific program committee, reviewed by its members, revised by the authors and, finally, adapted for this volume by the editors. The book is divided into two parts: Part I "On-line Control" covers fields like control charting, monitoring and surveillance as well as acceptance sampling. Part II "Off-line Control" is devoted to experimental design, process capability analysis and data quality. The purpose of the book is on the one hand to provide insights into important new developments in the area of statistical quality control especially surveillance and monitoring and on the other handto critically discuss methods used in on-line and off-line statistical quality control.

Ontology and the Semantic Web

Volume 156 Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and Applications
Ontology and the Semantic Web Image
In order for information systems supporting two different organizations to interoperate, there must be an agreement as to what the words mean. There are many such agreements in place, supporting information systems interoperation in many different application areas. Most of these agreements have been created as part of diverse systems development processes, but since the advent of the Semantic Web in the late 1990s, they have been studied as a kind of software artifact in their own right, called an ontology, or description of a shared world. This book brings together developments from philosophy, artificial intelligence and information systems to formulate a collection of functional requirements for ontology development. Once the functional requireme...

Next Generation Design & Engineering
Frontiers in Antennas Image
The state of the art in antenna design and engineering Edited by one of the world's foremost authorities on smart antennas and featuring contributions from global experts, Frontiers in Antennas discusses the latest advances in antenna design and engineering. This pioneering guide deals primarily with frontier antenna designs and frontier numerical methods. Many of the concepts presented have emerged within the last few years and are still in a rapid state of development. Each chapter provides in-depth details on a unique and modern antenna technology. Frontiers in Antennas covers: Ultra-wideband antenna arrays using fractal, polyfractal, and aperiodic geometries Smart antennas using evolutionary signal processing methods The latest developments in Vi...

Fundamental Limitations in Filtering and Control

Fundamental Limitations in Filtering and Control Image
The issue of fundamental limitations in filtering and control lies at the very heart of any feedback system design, since it reveals what is and is not achievable on the basis of that system's structural and dynamic characteristics. Alongside new succinct treatments of Bode's original results from the 1940s, this book presents a comprehensive analysis of modern results, featuring contemporary developments in multivariable systems, sampled-data, periodic and nonlinear problems. The text gives particular prominence to sensitivity functions which measure the fundamental qualities of the system, including performance and robustness. With extensive appendices covering the necessary background on complex variable theory, this book is an ideal self-containe...
