Green Computing with Emerging Memory

Low-Power Computation for Social Innovation
Green Computing with Emerging Memory Image
This book describes computing innovation, using non-volatile memory for a sustainable world. It appeals to both computing engineers and device engineers by describing a new means of lower power computing innovation, without sacrificing performance over conventional low-voltage operation. Readers will be introduced to methods of design and implementation for non-volatile memory which allow computing equipment to be turned off normally when not in use and to be turned on instantly to operate with full performance when needed....

Nanophotonic Fabrication

Self-Assembly and Deposition Techniques
Nanophotonic Fabrication Image
Nanophotonics, a novel optical technology, utilizes the local interaction between nanometric particles via optical near fields. The optical near fields are the elementary surface excitations on nanometric particles, i.e. dressed photons that carry material energy. Of the variety of qualitative innovations in optical technology realized by nanophotonics, this books focuses on fabrication. To fabricate nano-scale photonic devices with nanometer-scale controllability in size and position, we developed a self-assembly method for size- and position-controlled ultra-long nanodot chains using a novel effect of near-field optical desorption. A novel deposition and etching scheme under nonresonant conditions is also demonstrated and its origin is reviewed....

Model-Based Engineering of Embedded Systems

The SPES 2020 Methodology
Model-Based Engineering of Embedded Systems Image
Embedded systems have long become essential in application areas in which human control is impossible or infeasible. The development of modern embedded systems is becoming increasingly difficult and challenging because of their overall system complexity, their tighter and cross-functional integration, the increasing requirements concerning safety and real-time behavior, and the need to reduce development and operation costs. This book provides a comprehensive overview of the Software Platform Embedded Systems (SPES) modeling framework and demonstrates its applicability in embedded system development in various industry domains such as automation, automotive, avionics, energy, and healthcare. In SPES 2020, twenty-one partners from academia and industry...

Mathematical Models for Poroelastic Flows

Mathematical Models for Poroelastic Flows Image
The book is devoted to rigorous derivation of macroscopic mathematical models as a homogenization of exact mathematical models at the microscopic level. The idea is quite natural: one first must describe the joint motion of the elastic skeleton and the fluid in pores at the microscopic level by means of classical continuum mechanics, and then use homogenization to find appropriate approximation models (homogenized equations). The Navier-Stokes equations still hold at this scale of the pore size in the order of 5 15 microns. Thus, as we have mentioned above, the macroscopic mathematical models obtained are still within the limits of physical applicability. These mathematical models describe different physical processes of liquid filtration and acoust...
